First of all, let's find some plugins to get my data.
For DocMan, I found the mgration plugin here.
While searching for all my stuff, I am wondering if I just shouldn't go with RokDownloads instead of the more complicated DocMan. RokDownloads is free, Docman's newest version is not, and this is a school's website with low budget and not that many documents to put in the manager, I guess they can use the migration to clean up some really old newsletters to the parents.
Well, we'll see how it goes. CHecking the JoomlaTools site, and hey, there's a new version of the free DocMan, version 1.4.2. So downloaded that first. Checked the version in the old 1.0.15 site, it's 1.4.0RC2. So that should work.
Also found a DocMan theme, making it look a bit more modern, so I might give that a try.
For JEvents, I found the migration plugin here. Steps to follow for JEvents are found here.
The JEvents version in the old site is: 1.4.2
So according to the migration steps, I first need to install version 1.4.3 in the new joomla site to import my data, then install the newest JEvents 1.5 and convert the data.
More info about the conversion from 1.4.3 to 1.5 can be found here.
So, what else do we have in our old joomla 1.0.15 installation? We have a link to picasa for pictures, which is no problem as there are several tools for joomla 1.5 to display them nicely inside your website.
We have joomlaXplorer, okay, no worries there, and JCE, also no problems.
Guess it's time to start with a backup then.
Importing the migration sql file got its challenges in this case, as it came up with duplicate entries for "key 1". Read some info on the net, did some checking in my sql-file and removed the duplicates as they were inrelevant anyway. So after trial and error, remove some more.... got everything in my new site.
Installing the new DocMan version 1.4.2, turned on the legacy plugin and all content was there.
kuddos to DocMan.
not that I was worried about that.
My worries were JEvents. But, following the guidelines I linked to above, it all worked out in the end. The only thing that kind of delayed the progress was finding the actual import data from 1.4.3 to 1.5 link. Turned out it is switched off in the configuration of JEvents 1.5. Which makes sense, since most people would have updated already, but hey, I'm late, so sue me....
All data here, rearranging the menus and then do some new templating, it's time for a brand new design as well.
