Reddie's entries about webdesign, joomla, wordpress and other experiences.
I totally skipped Joomla version 1.6 but since I had to convert a site for a client from XHTL/CSS to Joomla, I couldn't resist and installed Joomla's newest version 1.7.
Thewhole installation process was quite similar to Joomla 1.5, so no major changes there. I useed RocketLauncher, and installed a whole lot of sample data from RocketTheme, just to see how things are done.
The admin panel looks really nice. New icons, new color (blue)... but still with enough feel of the older Joomla's so you don't get lost. At least, not right away.
A couple of things to mention, right away.
It took me (a little) while to find the parms for contacts and weblinks. The developers have moved them in a similar wayas the article parms, there now is a settings button along the other buttons, like "new", "save" and "apply".
Logical choice, now I know where they are, I really like it.
Then, I installed joomla 1.7.1, but of course, version 1.7.2 was out.
And I got acquinted with the brand new one-click updater! You reach it through extensions management, update > find updates. Worked like a charm!
So now it is time to play around and see what else is new and worth mentioning.
