Well, working with Joomla 1.7 is most certainly fun. I like it, and here's a couple of things I figured are worth mentioning.
First of all, the main Joomla menu has been slightly changed, compared to 1.5.24.
The menu Tools has disappeared, probably to make room for the Menu for Users with access level control. Of course, the tools aren't gone, but you can now find them under the first menu item, Website.
Here's some screenshots, from Dutch joomla backends:
Another thing that is new, is that you can now see how many users are logged in on front-end AND on backend.
Also really helpful: the title aliasses are now shown, in your menu items and articles.
Why is this helpful? If you're using joomla SEO, those aliasses are used in the SEO URL's. So it is pretty handy that you can quickly see what aliasses you are using. And, even better, it doesn't let you use the same alias twice, which will mess up the SEO component. I've had that problem in Joomla 1.5.24 before, wondering why the ### my pages wouldn't show, only to discover that the same alias was accidently used twice.
And did you look for the copy or move menu-item button on the top-right? It's moved, you find it underneath the menu item lists. I guess this is also done because there were too many buttons in the right top menu, plus it has some new features regarding ACL.
I haven't spent time figuring out the ACL thing yet. Wasn't necessary for my first joomla 1.7 site.
So... that were just some basic changes in 1.7 (which might have been changed in 1.6 already, but like I mentioned before, I just never worked with 1.6).
Now it is time to play with a webshop: Hikashop. More about that later.
