template layout disappears

well, some further investigation: it has at least something to do with the SEO paramaters in the config. If you switch on search engine friendly URL"s and leave the Apache mod_rewrite off, the layout has problems.
Also, i tried the last option there, add suffix to URL: same problem.
Haven"t tried to switch the mod_rewrite on yet. Maybe that will help.
